Asi River & Gölbaşı Lake Rehabilitation via Water Hyacinth Upcycling

550,000 TRY awarded

Status: Ongoing

Project Duration: Sept 2025- August 2026

Challenge

Water hyacinth infestation severely reduces oxygen levels, disrupts biodiversity, and impairs water access in the Asi Basin and Gölbaşı Lake. Post-earthquake disruptions have accelerated eutrophication and weakened ecosystem resilience. This project addresses both environmental degradation and gender-inclusive recovery through removal, reuse, and ecological education.

Solution

TÜRSİYEV will implement a community-centered recovery program that supports women, youth, and disadvantaged groups in developing sustainable income-generating activities. The project links education, skills training, and ecological awareness with post-earthquake rehabilitation. By engaging cooperatives, municipalities, and local stakeholders, the initiative aims to strengthen social resilience, promote sustainable livelihoods, and ensure inclusive participation in recovery.

 Project Deliverables

  • Skills development workshops for women and youth in handicrafts, sustainable production, and small enterprise management.

  • Establishment of partnerships with cooperatives and municipalities to provide market access for products made by beneficiaries.

  • Environmental awareness sessions for children and young people, connecting recovery with ecological stewardship.
